Romin Evo Pro Awarded ‘Gear of the Year’ by Men’s Journal

Specialized’s Body Geometry saddles are long proven to provide physiological benefits and improve cycling performance — but the world didn’t always believe

Men’s Journal awarded the Specialized Romin Evo Pro road saddle Gear of the Year in its current issue, on newsstands now. The Romin Evo Pro represents an evolution of patented Body Geometry technology that protects a rider’s sexual function and reduces back pain.

“With all the things that can ruin your sex life, don’t let a bike seat be the rub,” says Men’s Journal. “The best new model we’ve tried is the Specialized Romin Evo Pro.”

The lightweight saddle allows for healthy blood flow, Men’s Journal says, “while still providing enough padding for 100-mile days.”

“In August of 1997, Bicycling magazine ran an article, ‘The Unseen Danger,’ with a picture of a saddle with barbed wire wrapped around it,” Dr. Minkow said. “The article said for the first time in print that men who rode bicycles were at risk for developing erectile dysfunction.”

Dr. Minkow soon partnered with Specialized, and the first Body Geometry saddles were introduced in 1998. Within a year, more than 500,000 Body Geometry saddles had been sold.

In the years since, more studies have proven the design, and allowed for more improvement. Today, Specialized offers 41 Body Geometry saddles, each tailored to a rider’s physiology and riding style.

A key component of the Body Geometry design is support for the rider’s sit bones (or ischial tuberosities, for you technical types). Body Geometry performance saddles come in three widths to properly accommodate all riders.

Dr. Minkow created the Romin at a pro cyclist’s request for a curved saddle with a groove all the way down the nose.

Next, the Romin Evo design debuted with a curved nose and a narrower middle section than the Romin.

One notable feature on all Romin saddles is the flared tail, which puts the pelvis forward and thereby straightens the spine on many riders.

Taupo - Mt Eden Cycles Style

It was truly a really tough day with head winds for far too much of the ride but once again it just has to be said that Taupo is one Awesome Event.  So many cyclists all on one loop is so cool!

A huge well done to all who finished especially to the first timers.  For those doing the organised 5 and 6 hour bunches lets hope for better weather next year!  A special thanks to all who helped pull these bunches around!

Demo’s, Evo’s and the Status

Specialized is making a few brand new bikes this year. Notable for those of us who like the downhills is the Status – a lower line gravity bike that is more like the Demo and SX in geometry than the Big Hits were. For those riders who like to pedal for their radness the new Stumpjumper Evo carbon is a light but aggressive bike designed to smash the downhills.

And not to mentioned the Enduro Evo! Same Enduro platform with the addition of the front and rear coil shocks, command seatpost and All Mountain inspired components.

Specialized are introducing ‘Evo’ models in the Stumpjumpers too, ever thought you wanted a light trail bike with abit extra for those structures and downhills……look no futher! Boosted travel, bigger wheels, a command post and a degree slacker in the head tube all built around the proven Stumpy design.

2012 Camber Expert 29er smashes it!

“There isn’t a more comfortable mid-travel full susser out there for racking up huge miles” 4/5 stars – Bike Radar 2011

The new 2012 Camber Expert Carbon with custom Fox shocks front and rear, M5 Rear Triangle, 142mm Dropouts, Command post and SRAM/Roval fiishing components make this one of the most capable 29er trail bikes on the market! With reviews to back up the hype!

“it’s clear that Specialized have got 29er geometry dialled. Getting the big wheels to behave in fast-changing situations on the trail has been a big priority for the engineers.”

“The icing on the cake is the low weight, incredible stiffness and vibration-absorbing character of the carbon front triangle. Few 29ers steer with the precision of the Camber Carbon 29″

The 2012 Camber range starts at $2800 for 26″ and $4400 for the 29er’s
